Reflections of Mock Performance - Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

Overall I feel that my performance was successful. I think that I have definitely improved on aspects of my performance that I identified last time, in particular I made great progress on singing the piece with much cleaner vocals especially during the belting notes of the piece at 1:31 and 3:21. I also fully performed the piece in the character of Joseph, I was able to add a level of sobbing to my voice to add more emotion to the piece; I also managed to develop my characterisation in my physicality especially through my posture and use of levels. I also feel that I managed to improve a great deal on my breath control and my overall characterisation from my last performance, making the piece feel much more impactful and emotional

However, I do feel I still need to improve on my vocals during the belting parts in particular. It was made clear to me by Lois that especially in the final chorus (3:21) I still used distortion while singing; after seeing this myself, I feel that as a result this took away from the emotion and solemnity of the music and the performance as a whole. I would also like to work on my gestures throughout the piece, this would help me to not seem as stationary throughout the piece and make the character more believable.

Some feedback I was given by my classmates highlighted that towards the end of the performance I seemed to lose focus as a result of getting the lyrics in the final chorus incorrect. This broke the immersion of the song and caused the overall emotional impact of the song to be reduced.

In terms of my SMART Targets, I feel that I have definitely improved on these two parts of my performance, however I do feel that I need to ensure that even if I make a mistake I should still stay fully in character throughout the entire performance and make sure that I do not break my concentration.
