Vocal Maintenance And Damage Prevention

SIX Rehearsal Check In: October 12

This week, we did more sirening than usual however I had found this much more beneficial due to the fact that we were running through all of the songs and these required us to use our full range, for this reason I found this much more useful. We also did some breathing exercises which were helpful in preparing us for using our breath control while singing and dancing.  As a company, we have definitely improved on our projection. It feels like we are all much more confident with the songs and movements as a whole and as a result it has allowed us all to focus more on the singing and our projection; this has greatly improved the quality of our performance and has greatly increased our confidence as a company as a whole.  However, I do feel that the company as a whole really does need to work on our characterisation while performing. Although we have started to do this, I feel that we really need to develop it further and complete more exercises before it is ready. In saying that...

Response On Recordings From Six

Strengths So far I think that as an ensemble we have done a good job of memorising the dances. Most of us are on time with the music and I feel that we have done a good job at learning all the little movements to be synchronised with each other. We also have high levels of energy throughout the majority of the songs, with most of us keeping the same energy levels throughout the entirety of the songs, with only a few moments where it dips.  Personally, I feel that I was very effective at keeping a high level of energy through my performance with only a few moments where I could see a dip in energy from myself. I also feel that I did quite well with my facial expressions during some of the numbers, keeping it consistent throughout all of the takes that we did. I also believe that I was successful in remembering all the changes that had been made to the dance only moments before they were filmed. With some dances having completely different movements during certain parts that I was ab...

SIX Rehearsal Check In - September 28th

What Has Been Successful?  This week we rehearsed every song we have learned so far, this involved Ex-Wives, No Way, Don't Lose Your Head, Get Down and Six. I was really happy that I got to sing Get Down as I hadn't yet got the chance to sing that with the backing track for the teen version of the show so it was nice to work out the timings and put certain changes to vocals into practise.  I am also confident with the progress that I am making towards learning the songs, as I know the majority of the songs now and so I have the rest of the time to now perfect them and learn of the little inflections and pieces that enhance the songs.  What Needs Improving? However, something that I still need to focus on improving is my singing of harmonies. I often struggle with learning harmonies as they differ from the standard tune of the music, however I am getting more confident with them but it is still something that I have to work much harder in order to properly perfect them....
